Willy’s Roll-Off Ltd., 1092066 Ontario Inc., Willis and Susan McKeown and Percy Pyper Ltd. pled guilty in February to impairing water quality, establishing a waste disposal site without approval, and failing to transport waste only to an approved site. They were fined a total of $150,000 plus the 25% victim fine surcharges.

Ministry of the Environment inspections showed that the defendants had dumped construction and demolition waste in a former graver pit site in Ottawa. The companies did not have approval to store waste at the site and only had ministry approval to transport waste to an approved site. Inspectors also discovered a pond that was almost completely covered in waste. Water samples revealed that water quality may have been impaired.
