AIG Risk Management has announced two new insurance endorsements for owners or managers of buildings that comply with recognized green building standards, such as LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which is the certification program of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This is another fascinating example of “green” buildings going mainstream.

AIGRMGreen Reputation Coverage provides up to $50,000 in coverage, per occurrence, for crisis management consultant costs when a green building is the subject of a reputational crisis. Specifically, AIGRMGreen Reputation Coverage provides access to crisis management specialists to: manage adverse publicity; guide and counsel key company personnel; and provide other necessary services to restore a company’s reputation. The coverage also provides defence costs.

AIGRMGreen Indoor Environment Coverage protects against claims of bodily injury caused by any substance or odour produced by a green building’s specialized air quality and water control equipment. While such equipment is critical to green certification, losses resulting from this type of equipment is typically not covered in standard policies.
