On September 19, 2011, Ontario will start to accept applications for the new class of “Environmental Compliance Approvals”. Regulation 255/11 sets out the generic requirements for applying for an ECA; individual projects will require additional information, yet to be specified. 

Reg. 255/11 does not apply to renewable energy approvals, permits to take water, drinking water systems and municipal licensing, or licensing and certification programs such as pesticides and well drillers. Numerous complementary amendments have been made to O. Reg. 681/94 and to 42 regulations under the following Acts:

  • Food Safety and Quality Act
  • Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act
  • Lake Simcoe Protection Act
  • Mining Act
  • Nutrient Management Act
  • Ontario Water Resources Act
