Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017, is currently working its way through the Ontario legislature and, if passed into law, would impose many new obligations on employers. For more details on those changes, please see our previous blog posts on the subject.
Bill 148 is in the “committee stage” of the legislative process, and the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs is currently holding public consultations to receive input on the proposed legislation.
Hearings will be occurring in London on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Delta London Armouries, 325 Dundas St., in the Gunnery Ballroom. Hearings are open to the public, and may provide an excellent opportunity to gauge which elements of the legislation are most likely to become law.
The hearings will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., as needed.
While the deadline for requesting to appear before the committee has passed, interested employers can make written submissions to the committee before 5:30 p.m. on July 21, 2017, by contacting the Clerk of the committee. More information is available here.
