About
Dan received his Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Guelph and his Law Degree from Western University. Since being called to the Bar in 2000, Dan has had extensive experience and has successfully represented a diverse range of clients (i.e. franchisors, franchisees, municipalities, institutions, individuals, shareholders, corporations) in a variety of franchise, corporate, commercial and construction matters. Through his work, Dan has gained a reputation for taking a business approach to resolving disputes and for being a tenacious advocate who achieves the proper result.
Dan is the chair of the Commercial Litigation Department. Dan’s team of lawyers is dedicated to ensuring that client's needs are met in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
Dan represents his business clients whether in franchising, distribution, construction or operations with respect to risk management and often called upon to act as their "quarter back" for a wide range of issues that arise in all business systems and is often consulted to co-ordinate and assist with the legal, business, and operational aspects of his clients businesses. He has significant business and legal experience in the franchising industry and enjoys representing both Franchisors and Franchisees to resolve disputes. Dan understands that Franchisors and Franchisees are not in the business of litigation and therefore a result-oriented approach is necessary to achieve the best possible result in a prompt and cost-effective manner.
Business arrangements sometimes reach a point of conflict, whether it be a partner dispute, a shareholder dispute or a contractual dispute. When you are unable to resolve these matters in the normal course, Dan will be there to assist you with the strategy and resolution mechanism. He will stand in your corner, fight for your position and advance your case to resolution.
In addition to providing dispute resolution and litigation services, Dan advises and assists Municipal and Educational Institutions with respect to tendering and assists with the preparation of tender documents. Dan also provides post-tender support to ensure that all facets of the tender process are compliant.
Dan represents business clients in both traditional and new and emerging business concepts.
Dan has successfully represented clients in Tribunal, Court, Mediation and Arbitration settings, and has won cases in various courts including the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal of Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal.
