Karim Diallo, counsel and mediator at Siskinds Desmeules, was quoted in a CTV News article addressing the health concerns of Rouyn Noranda residents regarding the elevated levels of arsenic and other heavy metals emitted by a nearby copper smelter owned by Glencore.
The class action suit, instituted by Siskinds Desmeules on behalf of the northern Québec residents, alleges that Glencore was aware of the harmful emissions but failed to disclose this information promptly. Consequently, residents suffered damages from residing in a high-risk area—a problem that could have been mitigated by Glencore through emission reduction measures, as highlighted by Karim.
